Foundationcats – base of German Longhair breeding
The German Longhair was once widespread and popular. Even today there are still regions, where longhaired cats live in the wild, which carry the genes of the German Longhair and which have a corresponding type. With a little luck you find them on farms or in private households. Some of them are even shorthaired, but they can get longhaired kitten, because the (recessive) longhair gene can be carried unnoticed for many generations. These cats are the foundation of conservation breeding. Suitable for the German Longhair breeding are cats which are healthy and show the desired appearance and characteristics of the German Longhair. They must correspond to the standard broadly. Foundationcats are initially robust, socially responsible, assertive and very instinctive. Before beginning to breed with these cats, they will be examined in addition to a detailed health check and judged in the novice class of an exhibition of official judges and had to gain an assessment like
"excellent".
